Air Hockey Goalie Mallets

About Air Hockey Mallets
The mallet, also referred to as a striker, pusher, goalie or paddle, is the circular handle you grab onto in order to shoot and defend the puck on the surface of the table. The mallet is an instrumental accessory for your air hockey table since it is used for both offensive and defensive play during the game. Much like the puck, these accessories often get damaged during heavy use or lost because they are not attached to anything. Many players look to find replacement mallets and luckily they are fairly inexpensive to find online.
What Air Hockey Mallets are Made From
Official mallets and pucks are usually both made from a material called Lexan polycarbonate resin. The restin is injection molded to reproduce the same product over and over. The Lexan material was selected as the material of choice for air hockey tables because it is environmentally friendly, resistant to the elements and virtually shatterproof. Some manufacturers use a Nylon or Capron material which produces a similar sturdy plastic result.

USAA Mallet Guidelines
United States Air Hockey Association (USAA) has strict guidelines around what is approved for professional mallets. Since there are different manufacturers of the game, these rules are in place to keep the game consistent from one table to another.
  • Weight must be 6 oz. or less
  • Diameter must be less than 4-1/16"
  • Color may be any except that the outside rim must be of a different color than game surface of table
  • The mallet must consist of the same material and be uniform and symmetrical throughout its circumference
  • No mallet may be altered by sloping the playing surface in order to create an angled striking or defending surface
  • Devices for attaching mallet to hand (i.e. bands, straps, strings, handles, and/or gloves) are legal as long as they do not affect the puck during play
